The latest works are inspired by the book of Daniel Harms Cases. The author does not try to illustrate the collection of stories of the author of absurd literature, but thinking about the exhibition at the Riga Porcelain Museum, the artist has kept this book close to him and hopes that the patient observer of the exhibition is no stranger to this book.
Name of the exhibition Pushkin had four sons and all idiots chosen in honor of the story of the same name in the book. The exhibition will also feature earlier works, in which experiences have been materialized.
Although Jānis Kupčs successfully proves himself in two types of art – both ceramics and painting – each one has different edges. The author’s pictorial handwriting is dominated by a strong stroke, bright colors and abstract environmental motifs. In ceramics, on the other hand, the artist creates conceptual compositions in expressive language, where pure form dominates and materiality and humor play an important role.
