“Last week we celebrated the Jewish New Year, and I pray with all my heart that this year will remain with its past horrors and the New Year giving blessings. “Today we celebrate both the victims and denounce terrorism and of course stand for Israel’s right to self-defense, but respect the humanitarian law between -national,” Minister of Foreign Affairs (“Unity”) Baiba Braže told the gathering.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Latvian Jewish community, Dmitrijs Krupnikovs, drew parallels between the terrorist attacks against Israel and the occupation of Latvia at the commemoration event.

“This date – October 7 – will be the same in the history of Israel and the Jews as June 17 in the history of Latvia. We will always mention it, we will always remember ,” he said.

Tala Solomon from Israel, whose sister Hillia was killed in a terrorist attack, also participated in the commemoration.

“I don’t think these divisions in our family and our country will ever heal completely. [mājās] back to the body bag,” Tala said sadly.

She and many other relatives of the victims find comfort in efforts to keep the memory of the dead alive. Therefore, the documentary film “Death Shelter” was shown at the memorial event, in which the last moments of the lives of several victims of the terrorist attack of October 7, 2023 were recorded in the video recordings of witnesses.
