Riga City Council Deputies Call for Continuation of Current Convocation and State-Minded Collaboration

The deputies elected to the Riga City Council from the party union “Jaunā VIENOTĪBA”, the national association “Visu Latvijai!”-“Tēvzemei und Brīvība/LNNK”, the Association of Latvian Regions and the bloc of deputies “Code for Riga” are united in the opinion that the current convocation of deputies of the Riga City Council should be continued to work by creating a majority of state-minded political forces that agree to honest, collegial and joint work, informs Elīna Bīviņa, adviser to the Deputy Chairman of the Riga City Council Viļnias Ķirš.

Vilnis Ķirsis, Deputy Chairman of the Riga City Council, “Jaunā VIENOTĪBA” party association: “We received the voter’s mandate to work to fix Riga and stop selfish politics less than three years ago in the emergency elections, and the list of tasks we have committed to accomplish is far from exhausted The deputies of the “New UNITY” faction are aware of their responsibility to continue the work collegially and are ready to work in a team with those deputies from other factions of the Riga City Council who make decisions and act like adults.”

Edvards Ratnieks, Deputy Chairman of the Riga City Council, National Association “Visu Latvijai!”-“Tēvzemei und Brīvība/LNNK” and the Association of Regions of Latvia: “One-person decisions, disregard for partners and concentration of power in the hands of one person or faction have led to a logical result – it looks like that the coalition in the Riga city council has ended, as well as the Progressives have already expressed that the coalition has collapsed. The votes in the city council of the last few days have shown that the mayor also does not have the support of the majority of the city council.”

Linda Ozola, deputy chairman of the Riga City Council, “Code for Riga” bloc of deputies: “In my opinion, the coalition of state forces of the Riga City Council should be seen as a value that must be protected. Letting it break up would be irresponsible to the citizens of Riga, especially considering the current security situation and a party that is friendly to Russia the desire to take over the power in the capital. “Code for Riga” does not have insurmountable conflicts with any of the factions, however, we believe that improvements are needed in mutual communication and grounding of some ambitions.”

The representatives of the three political forces represented in the Riga City Council agree that any action that would lead to emergency elections in Riga is currently not only unfounded, but also unreasonable, because the local government is decisive and has the right to decide, but instability and chaos are not necessary for anyone. Politicians are sure that the honest continuation of work will also be supported by other state-minded deputies elected to the Riga City Council.
