Thanks to the active work of the port of Riga and its partners, promoting Riga as an excellent cruise destination for niche and off-season cruises, the offer of the city of Riga in the winter season is becoming more and more recognizable among international cruise companies.
In the December edition of the industry magazine “Seatrade Cruise Review”, it is written about Riga: “With traditional Christmas markets and illuminations, Riga is able to create a particularly attractive magical atmosphere and is recognized as one of the best winter destinations in Europe. The city’s festive decorations and the joyful bustle of the Christmas market, which surprises with wonderful tastes, smells and beautiful gift offers, enliven the city streets and create a real Christmas dream atmosphere. According to surveys of cruise ship passengers, Riga is generally recognized as an excellent cruise destination, mainly due to the location of the port, which is very close to the Old Town, the wide range of excursions and the diverse offer of the city.”

Several more off-season (winter) cruise ship visits are expected in Riga in the coming years – 2024. In December 2018, the expedition ship “Le Commandant Charcot” of the French luxury cruise company “Ponant” plans to visit Riga twice as part of the “Scandinavian Wonderland & Christmas Market” cruise tour. On the other hand, the ships of the “Viking Line” company will visit Riga four more times in 2024 as part of three-day cruises – two visits are planned for September and two visits for December. The visit to Riga is also included in the itinerary of the “Nordic City Escape” cruise of the British company “Ambassador Cruise Line”, and the visit of this ship is scheduled for February 2025.

According to the current operational data of the Freeport of Riga, 68 ship visits have been registered in the Port of Riga for the next year’s cruise season. The season is scheduled to start on April 25 with the visit of the French cruise company “Ponant” ship “Le Bellot” and end on December 17 with the visit of the expedition ship “Le Commandant Charcot” of the same company.
