Crypt of the Necrodancer, an indie game that drew attention for its unique gameplay combining rhythm game and roguelike, is back with a new spin-off title that focuses more on ‘rhythm’ elements.
‘Rift of the NecroDancer’ is a new rhythm action game being developed by Brace Yourself Games, the indie developer behind Crypt of the NecroDancer. Cadence, the main character of the original, appears as the main character in this new work as well, and tells the story of exploring modern society while repairing the cracks that shattered his life. In the main story, various game modes such as crack mode, mini-games, and boss battles will be provided to enjoy the fun of rhythm action.
Through the previously released trailer video, you can see in advance what type of gameplay each mode will provide. First, the crack mode is a mode that hunts monsters pouring out of cracks, and is characterized by displaying notes in general rhythm games as monsters.
The mini-game mode is a play mode in which mini-games with various visuals reminiscent of Nintendo’s Rhythm World series are gathered. In the form of a rhythm game, Cadence delightfully unravels the various moments that Cadence faces while living in modern society. Trailers show Cadence taking aerobics classes or working part-time at a hamburger franchise.
The Boss Battle is a mode where you face a boss that attacks in various forms according to the beat and rhythm. It is expected that it will be a mode where you can feel the fun of an action game after figuring out the attack pattern and gimmick of each boss and responding to it. In addition, various additional functions such as mode support and online ranking board support will be provided together.
The spin-off title ‘Lift of the Necrodancer’, which focuses on the attractive characters and rhythm game elements in the original work, will be officially released through the PC and Nintendo Switch platforms within the year 2023.
