Allergan breast prostheses can cause a rare form of lymphatic cancer. Bureau Clara Wichmann stands up for women’s rights and is now going to court on behalf of 60,000 women to hold Allergan liable. Reed is one of them.
They have been banned since 2018: the Biocell breast implants from pharmaceutical company Allergan. In addition to the rare form of lymphatic cancer, the implants are also said to cause headaches, muscle aches and fatigue. Of a mass claim office Clara Wichmann now hopes for redress against Allergan.
satisfaction
“For me, the flag goes out if Clara Wichmann wins the process,” says Riet Verbeek. “It’s not about the money for me. Since I got sick I don’t care about money anymore. But it is a satisfaction.”
Satisfaction, but also attention, that’s what Reed is mainly about, she explains. “I hope that there will be a lot of publicity and that women and especially young healthy women think carefully before they just have implants placed.”

Dentures from Allergan
The first time Riet Verbeek was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was only 27 years old. She had breast-conserving surgery. Her breasts were later removed. “It was really bad, you no longer feel like a woman. I didn’t dare to look in the mirror anymore.”
Operations to make breasts with her own fat fail. Finally, in 2008, she got Allergan prostheses. In 2018 she went for a check-up.
Wrong thing
“Allergan was already banned then,” she says. “Nobody asked about it and I didn’t know what brand of implants I had. The doctor said it was fine and I went home.”
In March 2020, one breast became very large, it swelled completely and fluid came out. “At first I did not dare to go to the hospital because of corona. I went in August anyway. The surgeon immediately saw that it was wrong.”
Whole body reacted
When it turned out that I had developed lymphoma, caused by the prostheses,” she continues. “It was only when the prostheses were removed that I noticed that all kinds of other complaints had also disappeared. My joints hurt, I had a bloated face and I was sweating profusely.”
“Not only did I get cancer from the prostheses, my whole body reacted violently to the silicone. Fortunately, the cancer is now under control.”
