In Bajo Flores, Deportivo Riestra defeated Huracán 1-0 with a goal from Jonathan Herrera on penalty, on matchday 14 of the Professional League. El Globo de Parque Patricios, who needed to recover from the setback against Tigre, lost an unbeatable chance to momentarily return to the top, while El Malevo continues its hegemony at home: it has won the last six games it has played in that condition.
And one day, Argentine football returned: after a long round of qualifiers, Globo and Malevo were the first protagonists of the sunny Friday afternoon. But, despite the high expectations for the return, in the first half hour of the match, both teams were not up to par: predictability, lack of connections and fluidity meant that, beyond some isolated play by Mazzanti, there were not many clear chances.
However, with five minutes left before half-time, Kudelka’s team took the lead and got going: the double chance at the feet of Carrizo and Ramírez, who was unable to push in the rebound, was added to the exceptional save by Arce on Benítez, which prevented Huracán from going into the break ahead.
In the second half, Ogro Fabbiani’s team improved the footballing aspects that had prevented them from being the protagonist during the first half. As the minutes went by, Malevo got closer to Héctor Galíndez’s goal and when the clock hit 20 minutes, the controversy of the afternoon began: Pereyra arrived late to the cross against Sánchez, who collapsed inside the area. And although at first referee Darío Herrera asked him to get up, after the VAR review where the first implementation of the captains’ zone took place, he sanctioned the penalty that Jonathan Herrera converted into a goal.
As things stand, Frank Kudelka’s team lost an excellent opportunity to climb back to the top of the Professional League, while Riestra continues to grow stronger with the support of its people: it won the last six games it played in that capacity.
