Riesa / Meissen. Curtain up – finally big cinema again: On January 14th, the Riesa and Meißen film palaces want to open their doors again. Saxony’s film fans had to wait almost two months for this moment. Due to the sharp rise in incidences at the time, the state government decided to lock down culture in mid-November.

“It was of course a very sad day for us as cinema operators,” says theater director Alexander Malt. Especially since, according to his statements, cinemas were never a relevant driver of the pandemic and had already reopened with extensive hygiene concepts after the first and second lockdown. “Then having to close again, that hit us hard not only economically,” says Malt.

Now the game can be resumed – and the preparations are in full swing. Not all missed films can be made up in Riesa and Meißen, but the team from the Filmpalast was able to put together a varied program.

The highlights of the opening week include “Spiderman – No Way Home” and “The King’s Man: The Beginning” as well as family films such as “Encanto” and “Laura’s Star”. The long-awaited continuation of the Matrix series is also on the program with “Matrix Resurrections”. Alexander Malt has another tip for film fans: “Sing 2” starts on January 20th and runs in his cinemas in a family cinema preview on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. four days before the national start. “The perfect film for going to the cinema with the whole family.” Adults would only pay the children’s price if they were accompanied by a child.
