Governor of West Java Ridwan Kamil also commented on the issue of the extension of the president to three periods which is now emerging. The person who is familiarly called Emil is not in a position to agree or disagree.
He only said that all parties must comply if the three-term presidential term is regulated through amendments to the 1945 Constitution by the MPR.
“If it has been decided, we will obey, whatever the decision,” said Emil after filling the Ramadhan Faith Safari Talkshow at UII, Sleman, Tuesday (5/4).
Emil explained that all parties, including students, had the right to express opinions regarding the presidential term being changed to three terms.
Those who agree or disagree need to present arguments.
“If you agree, the group that agrees, voice their arguments. Agree or disagree, that’s the instrument in the law and the constitution. That’s roughly the case,” said Emil.
When asked his opinion on the proposed extension of the presidential term, Emil admitted that he was still studying the pros and cons.
He is not yet in a position to agree or disagree about the discourse.
“I haven’t studied it in depth, so I’m still looking at the pluses and minuses,” said Emil.
The discourse on a three-term presidential term emerged when a number of village heads expressed their support for President Jokowi at the National Gathering in Jakarta last week.
Several village heads who are members of Apdesi want President Jokowi to serve three terms. The reason is that Jokowi always grants requests from village heads.
Before the issue emerged, several general chairmen of political parties proposed a postponement of the 2024 general election. PKB general chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, PAN chairman Zulkifli Hasan and Golkar chairman proposed it.
They consider that currently the national economic recovery is still ongoing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. If the vote is held in February 2024, they are worried that the national economic recovery will be disrupted.
