## Kamil’s Jakarta Dreams Dashed: Early Election Results Leave Candidate Disheartened
**Jakarta, Indonesia** – The mood at Jakarta’s Hotel Sultan on november 27th was far from celebratory. Former Governor Ridwan Kamil, known affectionately as “Emil,” had arrived quietly, retreating directly to his room to monitor the unfolding rapid count results of the Jakarta gubernatorial election.”he was a bit downcast by the early numbers,” a member of Kamil’s campaign team confided to *detikX* at the hotel. “He had been so confident about winning in the first round.”
Kamil’s optimism wasn’t unfounded. Throughout the campaign, he and his running mate, Suswono, repeatedly declared their intention to secure victory in a single round. This confidence was echoed by key figures within the Koalisi Indonesia Maju (KIM) coalition, which had previously backed Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the presidential election.
KIM, a formidable alliance comprising Gerindra, Golkar, PAN, the Democratic Party, and several smaller parties, was further bolstered in Jakarta by the addition of NasDem, PKB, and PKS, earning it the moniker KIM Plus.
However, despite the coalition’s strength and the backing of former President Joko widodo, early results painted a different picture. Quick counts from various polling agencies placed Kamil and Suswono in second place, trailing behind Pramono Anung and Rano Karno. Independent candidates Dharma Pongrekun and Kun Wardana secured third place.
While the exact figures varied slightly between agencies, the trend was clear: Pramono-Rano where poised to secure over 50% of the vote, while Kamil-Suswono hovered around 39%, with Dharma-Kun trailing at approximately 10%.
A senior KIM plus official revealed that Kamil’s setback had been anticipated. The official pointed to former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan’s endorsement of Pramono-Rano as a turning point.
“Anies’ support could shift 20% of the vote in Jakarta,” the official explained. “He actively campaigned for Pramono-Rano, unlike Prabowo and Jokowi’s more passive support for Kamil-Suswono.”

The outcome of the Jakarta gubernatorial election serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of politics, even with strong coalitions and high-profile endorsements. It also highlights the significant influence of local figures like Anies baswedan in shaping voter sentiment.
As Kamil and his supporters grapple with the results, the political landscape in Jakarta continues to evolve.
