A Bulgarian with a yacht got stuck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
The Bulgarian was not allowed to dock at a port in the Cook Islands, which is a possession of New Zealand and is located right in the middle of the ocean. The reason is that he was not vaccinated, telegraph.bg reported.
The Bulgarian twice tried to enter the port of Avatiu on the island of Rarotonga. He made the first attempt on Monday morning, but was told to leave. On Tuesday afternoon, he made a second unsuccessful attempt to land at the port, Cook Transport Minister John Hosking confirmed in a statement, cookislandsnews.com reported.
His yacht is named Pebbles (“River Pebbles”), is registered in Germany and is operated by a Bulgarian, the site said. The vessel last entered a port in French Polynesia, and its next stop was Fiji. The yacht has been on the high seas for 30 days.
The Bulgarian, who is the only unvaccinated crew member, reported problems with the autopilot and motorcycle in an attempt to gain access to the port. However, the border of the Cook Islands remained closed and the yacht and the Bulgarian were denied access by the border authorities. “Border authorities will continue to monitor the situation,” Hosking said.
