This series started with the idea of ”I want to convey the wonders of 40mm single focus lenses!” In the final episode, we will introduce Ricoh’s high-end compact digital camera “GR IIIx”. Speaking of GR, the focal length is 28mm (equivalent), but the focal length of this model (26.1mm) with the “x” is equivalent to 40mm in 35mm format.

“GR IIIx” is a compact digital camera equipped with an APS-C size sensor, released in October 2021. By the way, “GR III” equipped with a focal length equivalent to 28mm, which is considered the standard focal length for the GR series, was released in March 2019.
The maximum aperture of the lens is F2.8, which is darker than an interchangeable 40mm (equivalent) prime lens for mirrorless cameras, but it is bright enough and has a large aperture as a prime lens built into a compact digital camera. You can say that.
The 40mm single focus lens introduced so far is quite different in meaning as it is not an interchangeable lens type, but it is equivalent to the GR series, which is famous for its focal length of 28mm (equivalent), and has a 40mm equivalent that has an angle of view that is good for snapshot photography. The shortest shooting distance is 12cm, and although the maximum shooting magnification has not been announced, you can get closer to the subject than any of the 40mm equivalent prime lenses introduced in this series. I set the image control, which is a finishing adjustment function, to “High Contrast Black and White,” and tried to capture the scenery of the alley as if it were a wide-angle lens while capturing my own shadow.
