Rick Wester Fine Art : David Leventi : New York

“It’s largely a love story for a city that no longer exists. Or just the end of one act and the start of another. ”

David Leventi: New York commemorates the city at different points in time over a decade. Even as the past year has shaken New York’s vitality, David Leventi’s photography of New York shines a light on its nature as a living organism, which adapts and changes forever with every passerby. The photographs capture the diversity of New York City: its exteriors and interiors, the calming neutral colors of concrete buildings during the day and the intoxicating neon hues at night, the street views and bird’s-eye views, and to both its means of subsistence and sometimes their scarcity.

RWFA’s online exhibition provides images of Leventi from various holdings, and his own documentation for commissioned work for design companies and magazines. Born in New York, the selection of works takes us on a journey on Leventi’s relationship with the city and with himself.

The exhibit seeks to showcase different aspects of the city, whether it’s the iconic jazz club Lenox Lounge, since closed at 288 Lenox Avenue, Harlem, New York, or the now alien landscape of a lively dining experience in the Blaue room. Gans, 139 Duane Street, Tribeca, New York. About ten images are those of institutions or spaces that no longer exist or are at a standstill following the coronavirus, such as the Metropolitan Opera. It reminds us of what the city was, how it is and what it will become.
