Rick Engelkes back with ex-wife: “Just like a fairy tale”

Even before Rick and Annemarie broke up, their relationship was not going well. According to her, it was difficult to walk away from each other and so they decided to try again several times before their final divorce in 2013. “The love was always great, but it didn’t it worked between us more,” said Annemarie.

According to Rick, a lot had already happened in their relationship, meaning that divorce was the best solution, ‘no matter how difficult’. “Deep inside I always felt that Annemarie was that great love. But first we had to separate from each other to find that feeling again,” he says.

Although both always felt sad about the choice to separate, over time they both found new relationships. “Sometimes I encountered the same things, sometimes completely different ones, but it made me grow and be closer to myself and my feelings,” Rick explains. He could himself ‘released’ from the anger he felt for Annamarie, allowing them to start together with a ‘clean slate’.

For Rick, returning to Annemarie felt both familiar and ‘new and exciting’. And it took some getting used to for Annemarie herself, but she soon discovered that both of them had gone through personal development. “Don’t just think: the other person did this wrong, but also look at your own part in it.

The actor created this self-improvement through a coach. “I’ve become calmer over the years. I’ve also started to live more out of my mind and trust that things will turn out okay.”

Over time, their relationship fell apart and the former lovers grew closer at the same time. Their communication during their co-parenting became more and more intimate, and as a result they became closer again. Rick recognized his shortcomings for his family and now wanted to do things differently. “That made me a better father.”

Communication between the two was becoming increasingly ‘relaxed’ and after Rick had declared a few months before that Annemarie was ‘the greatest love of his life’, the love between the two slowly grew again. “On New Year’s Eve last year we were both invited to the same friends’ party. We went there together and a romantic night followed,” said Rick.

From that moment on it was ‘inevitable’ and the two completely fell for each other again. “We sometimes say to each other: It’s like a fairy tale. We could not have thought of this in advance. I had sometimes wondered about it, but dropped that thought immediately. And now that it’s happening, it really feels like a great gift. “, said Rick.

As for the future, both are optimistic. “We’ve been ourselves again – the magic is back – and I hope we’ve got another thirty years,” said Annemarie.
