Richmond Fed President Barkin said there was no evidence that the Fed had succeeded in easing inflation and that he would raise interest rates further if needed.
“I really want to know more about these lagging effects, but I also want to keep inflation down,” Birkin said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Wednesday. “If we need to raise rates further, I have no objection to doing so,” he said.
Barkin will not have voting rights at this year’s Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting.

“The scenario in which we keep inflation down is compelling because of many actions we and other central banks have taken in the past,” he said. “We haven’t got it yet. It could take longer.”
