Richarlison scissors, the most beautiful goal of the 2022 World Cup

The goal scored by Brazil’s Richarlison from a scissors kick against Serbia in the sides’ first match at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar won the award for the best goal of the tournament, according to the International Federation of Football Associations .

Richarlison won this award by public vote, ahead of nine other nominated goals.

After a cross from Vinicius Jr. to the right wing, Richarlison controlled the ball with his left foot, before turning to send it with an acrobatic right-back into the Serbian’s net, scoring his second personal goal of the game which finished a 2-0 victory for the “Seleção”.

This goal prompted one of the commentators to say ‘This is Brazil’ and made everyone believe that Coach Tite’s men would set the finals on fire with their technique, football magic and improvisation, but despite some captivating moments, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Croatia on penalties.

The public chose this stunt to the detriment of the Saudi goal, Salem Al-Dosari, in the historic victory against Argentina, the Dutch Cody Khakpo against Ecuador, the Argentine Ensu Fernandez against Mexico, the Cameroonian Vincent Abubakar against Serbia, Mexican Luis Chaves against Saudi Arabia, French Kylian Mbappe against Poland, Richarlison also against Korea, the South, Korean Seong-Ho Paek against Brazil and Brazilian Neymar against Croatia.

FIFA began awarding this award in 2006, to succeed Richarlison, then Mexican Maxi Rodrigues, Uruguayan Diego Forlan (2010), Colombian James Rodrigues (2014) and Frenchman Benjamin Pavard (2018).
