Richard Groenendijk criticizes the voting process In Search of Maria

Richard expressed his frustration last Sunday Looking for Maria. He says that a woman approached him in the market about the talent show and told him that she voted for one of the candidates because she thought she was ‘so pathetic’. And Richard does not accept that. “If we vote for people we think are pathetic, then I would have sung a duet with Liza Minnelli when I was three.”

The jury member finds it difficult that the audience has such a big voice. “I would like to say to the audience: don’t get too carried away by emotion, not by ‘I don’t like the dress or I don’t like the song’.” According to Richard, the voters have to look elsewhere. “Would you like to watch that person all night long? And do you think that person can pull that cart too? Do you want to buy tickets for that?”

The comedian comes back to it on Instagram. ‘Received quite a few messages this morning – all neat and nice by the way – about this fragment. My comment was meant to make you a little aware of the fact that it really is a serious job in the theater. It’s not the local beauty pageant at the fair in Etten-Leur, let’s say … ‘

He also emphasizes that he is extremely proud of the candidates and the entire team: ‘It’s always great to see people perform live with a good orchestra for another evening.’

The audience can vote for their favorite during the broadcast. The two candidates with the least number of votes then compete against each other in the sing-off. Jury member Pia Douwes may then choose who continues and who has to say goodbye with the song ‘Bergen or Dalen’ from The Sound of Music.

Last week there was already something to do about the outcome of the talent show, after Tessa and Sanne – both working as a musical actress for a long time – ended up in the sing-off. And that while girls with less experience were secured by the viewers. Ultimately, Sanne had to say goodbye.

Last Sunday we said goodbye to Renée, she was already awarded by the jury as ‘best vocalist of the program’. Unfortunately that did not help.
