Richard Gere has been a Buddhist for a long time. He has now produced a film about his friend, the Dalai Lama. He is coming to Zurich for the world premiere.

Zurich – Hollywood star Richard Gere (74) is coming to the 20th Zurich Film Festival in October. He will present the documentary film “The Wisdom of Happiness” about the Dalai Lama – as a world premiere, the festival announced. Gere (“Pretty Woman” 1990, “Oh Canada” 2024) is the film’s executive producer.

The Dalai Lama’s sister, Jetsun Pema, and the Prime Minister of Tibet in exile, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, are also expected to attend the festival. The official name is “Zurich Film Festival”, without the umlaut, after the English spelling of the Swiss city.

The film, originally titled “Widsdom of Happiness,” traces the story of the 89-year-old Dalai Lama and contains previously unpublished material from the Tibetan government archives. The Dalai Lama was born in 1940 and was appointed spiritual leader of the Tibetans at the age of four. In the film, he calls for more compassion in human interactions, according to the festival. It runs from October 3 to 20.
