Richard Gasquet joins a closed circle

Winner of Marco Cecchinato this Monday in the first round of the Dubai tournament, Richard Gasquet pocketed the 550th victory of his career on the ATP circuit. Among the active players, only six have achieved this feat!

This Monday, Richard Gasquet passed a milestone in his career. By getting the better of Marco Cecchinato (6-4, 6-2) in the first round of the Dubai tournament, the French won the 550th victory of his career on the ATP circuit. A little less than 19 years after becoming the youngest winner of a match on the world circuit since 1990 by triumphing over Argentinian Franco Squillari in Monte-Carlo, the Frenchman joins a very closed circle. Among the active players who have already reached the 550 success mark, we only find the big names in world tennis: Roger Federer (1,243), Rafael Nadal (1,008), Novak Djokovic (943), Andy Murray (677) ) and Fernando Verdasco (552). If the Biterrois goes far in Dubai, he could even join the top 5 active players with the most victories on the ATP circuit. A great achievement!

Achieving 550 victories on the ATP Tour is not for everyone. This achievement underscores the longevity and success of Richard Gasquet at the highest level. The current 49th in the world has played 31 finals for 15 titles. He reached the last four of a Grand Slam tournament three times (Wimbledon 2007 and 2015, US Open 2013) and finished four seasons in the top 10 of the ATP rankings (2007, 2012, 2013 and 2015). In Monte-Carlo in 2018, the former world number 7 passed the milestone of 500 victories on the ATP circuit and became the first French player to achieve this during the Open era. At 34, he still has time to improve his record and increase his lead over his compatriots. By way of comparison, Gilles Simon and Gaël Monfils were victorious 493 times and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won 465 matches.
