The 90-year-old director intends to shoot a new installment of ‘Lethal Weapon’ with Mel Gibson (65) and Danny Glover (74), and has had no qualms when speaking in a interview about the flood of comic book movies, something that no doubt began with his unforgettable blockbuster protagonizada por Christopher Reeve, Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder y Ned Beatty.

Donner praised Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman’ for her optimism, but also ensures not to feel the same kind of affection for the darker versions of the superheroic material: “When done well, by my standards, it is very satisfying. I feel very happy and proud when I see them. But I’m disappointed to see so many people making superheroes so cynical. It is depressing“.

The director of ‘Maverick’ is not cut and take the opportunity to remember the president who is about to leave the White House: “When they’re so dark and gloomy and so pissed off at themselves and the world, I don’t find them all that entertaining. I think there is enough of that in real life. We just had four years of that. I think we wish the exact opposite“.

Directors such as Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder have taken comic-book cinema in bolder directions over the past few decades, as well as achieving major box office successes. All in all, Donner claims to be unaware of Snyder’s workAlthough he was pleased to learn that the filmmaker will be able to finish his version of ‘Justice League’, just like Donner himself with ‘Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut’ in 2006.
