The chances are that Daniel Ricciardo has driven his last race in Singapore. The Australian has been linked with an early exit for days, and that chance is increasing by the minute. Ricciardo himself seems to be hinting at a farewell to Formula 1.
In Singapore, Ricciardo drove a remarkable race. He had to let his teammate Yuki Tsunoda passed and in the final phase his team Visa Cash App RB took him in for a fresh set of soft tyres. He set the fastest lap and this put him in Lando Norris misses the extra point for this. For Max Verstappen is important in the battle for the world championship.
Sad news
It may have been a kind of parting gift from Ricciardo, as there is a good chance he will have to make way for Liam Lawson. After the race in Singapore, Ricciardo was asked by Viaplay about his future: “I’m definitely exhausted after this race. I don’t want to say it’s sad news and I look back positively on the fact that I’ve reached the sport and that I’ve been in it for so long. I’ve done something like 250 races. If that’s the case, I don’t want to play the sad game.”
Austin
Upon returning to the VCARB premises, Ricciardo was given a guard of honour, as this only serves to fuel more speculation. Ricciardo seems to realise that the book is almost closed: “There is a chance that you will not see me in Austin. We will see. Texas is my home and at the same time it is far away from home. You never know, but we know that an official decision will be made. I expect it soon.”
