The editorial staff of MilanNews.it contacted exclusively Riccardo Silva, a lifelong fan, owner of Miami FC and RedBird investor in the AC Milan club. These are his statements, specifying that Silva speaks in a personal capacity, as a fan and investor, and here in no way represents the thoughts of the Club:
Before the start of Serie A, Cardinale once again communicated to the fans that he wanted to win but in an intelligent way. How does the desire to be competitive coexist with economic sustainability?
“In the most important European football clubs there are always two objectives: to produce profits and to have a very strong and competitive team. These two objectives often, or almost always, are at odds with each other. The more a team spends, the more strong players it has, but in the same way it loses money. This has been one of the problems of European football for the last twenty years or more. Also for how it is structured: without a salary cap, competitors who come from sovereign wealth funds with no spending limits and much more. These two objectives, which are almost always inversely proportional to each other, both have been achieved in the case of Milan. We must be proud, it is almost an astral conjunction, an alignment of the planets with respect to the panorama of European football. We have a profitable company and we have a very strong and competitive team. We just have to congratulate the management and owners who are doing an amazing job. This is important to me, and it is not emphasized enough: it is a truly unique case at European level. A profitable balance sheet and a team that has been kept highly competitive; on the contrary, it has been improved in recent years by reaching goals such as the Scudetto, the semi-final of the Champions League and hopefully more results this year. As an investor and a fan, I am proud that the company is able to achieve these two results”.
