Ricardo Quiñónez continues in the mayor’s office, Roberto González denounces fraud

Ricardo Quiñonez will continue as mayor of the Municipality of Guatemala City in a disputed process. Separately, Roberto González, candidate for the CREO party, denounced fraud and pointed directly to the Unionista party.

“Since Sunday, our prosecutors have filed complaints about irregularities and illegalities in the electoral process. In the early hours of Monday, our team was present in several centers where these anomalies were committed and we denounced them accordingly”Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez added: “Given the irregularities and illegalities committed in the closure of the electoral process, the typing of the minutes, the theft of minutes, the imbalance between the system contracted by the board and the court, the uncounted minutes and the complaints made by citizens in networks social, we present a right of petition to the court so that a recount of the votes is made”.

Protests in front of the TSE for mayoral votes

After the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) confirmed the re-election of Ricardo Quiñónez, there were protests. This June 27 there was a demonstration in front of the building of the electoral body where the continuity of unionism at the head of the capital commune was rejected.

Under the motto of “No more Quiñonez”, a group of affiliates of the CREO party called for a new vote count. Even workers from the Municipality of Guatemala demanded that a second round be held for the mayoralty.

Abner García, from the municipal workers’ union, denounced that Quiñónez forced the workers to participate in the Valor-Unionista campaign. “There were threats towards the workers.”
