Ricardo Monreal promotes reforms to the Amnesty Law

Mexico City. The coordinator of the Morena Parliamentary Group in the Senate, Ricardo Monreal Ávila, said that to get to the truth of the tragedies that have mourned the country and have generated deep wounds in society, it is necessary to modify the Amnesty Law.

This, like other initiatives, has generated controversy, due to the moment of polarization typical of the electoral processes and the renewal of the Powers of the Union, he explained.

However, he noted: “I am a legislator who believes that Mexico must heal its wounds, must know the truth and punish those responsible for problems that have damaged the country.”

In a video, Monreal added that tragic events such as Tlatlaya, Allende, San Fernando or Ayotzinapa, hurt the nation and its peaceful and harmonious coexistence.

When defending his initiative that will be analyzed in the Senate plenary session this week, he stressed that both amnesty and pardon are legal figures that have been found in the Constitution and the law since 1824. In addition, they have been applied in 186 countries of the 193 that make up the UN.

The Morenista pointed out that the reform of the Amnesty Law will help the Executive have the power to exempt criminal application for witnesses who can provide verifiable, verifiable data that helps solve crimes that harm the country.

“The technical, legal and political discussion must be held seriously, and that is what I am willing to do as the author of the initiative,” he added.
