With the beginning of the year, the Cauce del Nalón association has already advanced its cultural programming for this month. The presentation of two books and an interesting cultural conference have been scheduled. Although the events will be face-to-face, they can also be followed through their YouTube channel.
Next Friday, at 8:00 p.m., at the Casa de La Buelga, in Ciaño, the presentation of Ricardo Menéndez Salmón’s book “Do not go meekly into that quiet night: a conversation with the father” will arrive. The author will be presented by José Parejo Mota and José Ignacio Fernández del Castro, professors of Philosophy and partners of Cauce, who are “great admirers and connoisseurs of the author’s work,” indicated from the entity.
A week later, on the 22nd, also at the same location and time, the conference by Carmen Alfonso García will arrive, with the title “Why read Galdós?”. The talk is part of the University Extension activities of the University of Oviedo. Alfonso García is a tenured professor in the department of Spanish Philology and at the conference will offer the reasons why he thinks it appropriate to read who is considered one of the best representatives of the 19th century realist novel.
Finally, on the 29th, also at the Casa de La Buelga, at 8:00 p.m., there will be the presentation of the book “The new abnormality”, by Nicolás Sartorius. This activity is also part of the University Extension program of the University of Oviedo. Nicolás Sartorius (San Sebastián, 1938) is a lawyer, politician and journalist. From a noble family, he was an active anti-Franco militant, being one of the founders of CC OO and a prominent member of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE).
Arrested and convicted on several occasions for his political militancy during the Franco dictatorship, he was charged with the “1001 process”. He was also a member of the secretariat, the executive committee and the central committee of the PCE.
The appointments are organized by Cauce del Nalón and the University of Oviedo, with the collaboration of the LA NUEVA ESPAÑA Club in Las Cuencas and the Langreo City Council.
