Ribera appoints new managing director for the Dénia health department

Ribera has a new helmsman for Dénia. The hospital group has appointed Javier Palau as the new managing director of the Dénia health department, which Ribera has managed since August 2021.

Palau has care and management experience. Doctor of Medicine from the University of Valencia, he has developed a large part of his professional career at the Hospital Universitario La Fe de Valencia where he has served as an adjunct doctor of the hematology service, deputy medical director, coordinator of the functional plan of the new hospital and as medical director .

Since 2016, Palau has been linked to the Ribera healthcare group in different positions of responsibility, as manager of the La Ribera health department, and in recent years as corporate director of projects. Palau added to his medical training as a clinical researcher in hematology; He has collaborated in clinical trials, epidemiology studies, and is the co-author of more than forty publications. Palau also has a master’s degree in Medical Management and Clinical Management and another master’s degree in Business Management.

Dénia Hospital closed 2021 with an average surgical delay of 54 days and a 65% major ambulatory surgery (CMA) rate. In addition, over the past year 11,000 surgeries were performed, 10% more than in 2020, with prioritization of care for patients with Covid-19.

Regarding the activity of external consultations, the hospital attended more than 355,000 consultations last year, with an average delay of twenty days in the first visits and sixty days in the successive ones. On the other hand, waiting times for diagnostic tests were 32 days for imaging diagnosis and 60 days for digestive endoscopy, interventional radiology and the pain unit.

During 2021 the activity in oncological surgery and the plans for the prevention of breast and colon cancer were maintained, in collaboration with Public Health of Dénia, and with the coordination of primary care and hospital professionals. Other important milestones of the year were the incorporation of neurosurgery to the portfolio of services and the obtaining of two awards in global hospital management and in the area of ​​the nervous system.

Ribera is a hospital group founded in 1997. Its main shareholder, with 90% of the capital, is Centene Corporation, one of the leading US insurers. Banco Sabadell is the other shareholder, with 10%. In Spain, Ribera is present in different autonomous communities, managing a dozen hospitals.
