Riad Sattouf sets up his own publishing house, Les Livres du futur

Best-selling comic book author Riad Sattouf announced Monday that he is setting up his own publishing house, Les Livres du futur, which will publish his next book, The Young Actor 1: adventures of Vincent Lacoste in the cinema, to be released on November 4, he said in a statement.

Asked by AFP, the entourage of Riad Sattouf specified that the author had embarked on this project with the desire to control even more closely a process of publishing his books, from the layout until manufacturing, in which he was already very involved.

This star designer does not however break with his publisher, Allary, since it is the latter who will publish the sixth and last volume of his autobiographical work, The Arab of the future, scheduled for 2022.

Riad Sattouf, 43, has had multiple editors, until his two greatest successes with Allary: The Arab of the future (five volumes, 2.5 million copies) and The Notebooks of Esther (also five volumes, 950,000 copies).

The Young Actor will tell the story of Vincent Lacoste, a 14-year-old schoolboy in Paris chosen in 2008 to star in a film by Riad Sattouf, Les Beaux Gosses. “In this first volume, we follow Vincent Lacoste from the courtyard of his college in ZEP to the film set, and with him we discover the life of an actor and the very particular world of cinema”, said the editor.

Completely unexpected, this first role gave the actor a great career, with among others roles in Hippocrates in 2014 or Amanda in 2018.

By creating his own business to publish himself, while being distributed by the Interforum network (Editis, Vivendi group), Riad Sattouf made the same choice of independence as the Swiss novelist Joël Dicker and the editorialist Eric Zemmour .

Joël Dicker had explained that he chose to leave the Fallois editions to regain control of his work and could not imagine working with a competitor of the publisher who had launched it. His house will be born on January 1st. As for Eric Zemmour, released by the Albin Michel editions in June, and wishing to release his book in September in the perspective of the presidential election of 2022, he added the edition to the activities of his company, Rubempré.
