Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – There are still few places to charge electric vehicles, although the government is currently pushing its construction to remote areas. However, how to convince investors that Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry will progress?
Investment Minister/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia said that the electric vehicle ecosystem does not only talk about electric batteries, but also where the charging station is located. The government is currently making massive plans to increase the number of charging stations.
“It will not be possible to produce cars and batteries if the station does not exist. We are planning to implement this,” he said in CNBC Indonesia’s Evening Up, Wednesday (27/10/2021).
Bahlil explained that several strategies were carried out by offering this investment to investors, both state-owned and private. So that there will be more filling places up to the sub-district level.
Currently, there are several private investors outside PLN, Pertamina and IBC to build charging stations. From the private sector, according to Bahlil, there are three potential investors who want to invest.
In addition, it is important to remember that the growth of Indonesia’s middle class is high, as well as the number of productive population in 2030 which will reach 60% of Indonesia’s population. According to Bahlil, this fact is proof that Indonesia is a potential market.
But on the other hand, Indonesia must quickly take a role in battery production. Because many neighboring countries don’t want Indonesia to be a player in downstream products. “We have to be aggressive, so it won’t be taken by neighboring countries. We’re still installing horses because neighboring countries don’t want this cell battery to happen in Indonesia. They want Indonesia to only supply raw materials. ,” he said.
Not only charging stations, Bahlil also wants to increase battery replacement stations, especially for electric motors. Because the growth of electric motors will grow first, where the target in 2030 is to reach 3 million units.
