Instead of achieving herd immunity, Indonesia has recently been judged to have achieved ‘herd stupidity‘. What is the real meaning?
The term herd stupidity came from epidemiologist Pandu Riono, Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia (FKM UI). He described the government’s and the public’s neglect of the COVID-19 pandemic like mutual ignorance that made the Corona virus in Indonesia not subside, until the last few days recorded a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Have been reminded of the possibility of a new variant, it doesn’t matter. Already know going home can increase cases, it is not strictly prohibited. Yes, both the government and the community are equally ignorant,” he explained to detik.com Monday (21/6/2021).
“Indonesia has long been in a state of herd stupidity. Human behavior encourages virus replication, reproduces itself, and becomes more infectious,” Pandu tweeted on his Twitter account.
He also highlighted the Corona pandemic policies such as micro PPKM which were considered ineffective even though they were extended. The policies that ultimately failed to suppress the Corona case were then judged as one of the factors that made Indonesia achieve herd stupidity.
