The Indonesian team won over Singapore in their first match in the preliminary round of Group A Thomas Cup 2022. RI men’s doubles Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri also grateful for the results.
Competing at the Impact Arena, Bangkok, Sunday (8/5/2022), the Indonesian men’s team faced tough resistance from the opposing camp. Red and White had to lose points first when the first single, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, was defeated by Loh Kean Yew, the mainstay of Singapore.
However, Indonesia then rose and managed to turn things around in the next three parties. The Thomas Indonesia team also managed to get their first win in the group stage A Thomas Cup 2022.
Apart from Jonatan Christie and Muhammad Rian Ardianto/Fajar Alfian, the second doubles Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri also managed to beat their opponent. The 2022 All England champion won 24-22, 21-14 over Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/Jun Liang Andy Kwek in the fourth party of the 2022 Thomas Cup.
“Earlier in the first game, we had to anticipate the gust of wind first. After we were able to master the situation, in the second game we were more comfortable to apply game strategies and win more easily than the first game,” said Bagas in his written statement.
“Alhamdulillah, we were able to win and contribute the winning numbers,” Fikri replied.
In the fifth party, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito completed Indonesia’s 4-1 victory over Singapore. Vito, the nickname for the third single, managed to overcome the resistance of Jia Wei Joel Koh with a score of 21-16, 21-7.
“In the first game, I had to adapt to the wind. For single players, winning the wind was actually difficult. After that, everything went according to plan,” said Vito, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito’s close nickname.
The Indonesian men’s team will face Thailand in their next match. Competition Thomas Cup 2022 This game will be played on Monday (9/5) at 19.00 WIB.
