The Merakes Field development project in the East Sepinggan Working Area was inaugurated by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif. The Merakes development project is the development of a deep sea gas field off the coast of the Kutei Basin with a water depth of approximately 1,500 meters.
The total target of Domestic Content (TKDN) of 31.72% will have a big meaning in driving the national economy.
This project will generate government revenue of US$ 1.6 billion and will help meet the supply of piped gas in East Kalimantan as well as domestic and export LNG needs.
The Merakes field is operated by Eni East Sepinggan Limited (65%) in collaboration with PT Pertamina Hulu Energi East Sepinggan (15%) and Neptune Energi East Sepinggan BV (20%). The development of the Merakes field is designed for a production period of 20 years.
The gas produced from the Merakes deepwater well will be collected in the subsea manifold and exported via a subsea pipeline to the Jangkrik Floating Production Unit (FPU) which is located approximately 45 km from the Merakes manifold. Gas from the Merakes field will be processed at the Jangkrik FPU and exported to the Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF) at Senipah through the existing Jangkrik export pipeline.
“With the inauguration of the Merakes Field, it is hoped that the national need for natural gas can be met and put to good use, and new ideas and thoughts will emerge to support the development of natural gas as a whole,” said Arifin in a press release, Tuesday (17/1/2023) .
