Rhone: the alleged killer of a policeman mowed down by a van in front of the assizes

On the night of January 10-11, 2020, police were monitoring criminals in a Volkswagen van as part of an “aggravated organized robbery” investigation and observed them committing a goods theft in an area of Isère motorway stop. The police try to intercept them shortly after, at the exit of the highway, near the town of Bron, with the help of the GAO, called for reinforcements. Stuck between police vehicles positioned to stop the van, the driver then rushes to one of the policemen in front of him, who, gun in hand, tells him to stop his vehicle.

“He didn’t shoot, while he was in self-defense, and he died”, underlines Me Jean-François Barre, who represents the mother and brothers of the deceased policeman, civil parties in the trial. The latter are hoping for explanations from the accused, to understand “because he didn’t stop, because he preferred to kill a man rather than surrender to the few cans of detergent he had in the truck”the lawyer reports.

Seriously injured after being dragged 20 meters from the van, Franck Labois, who fell into a coma, succumbed to his injuries two days later.
