The JDD posted this Sunday, April 11, 2021 the second ranking ranking the 500 cities in France where we live the best. And not surprisingly, Lyon (Rhône) is among the top 100. She’s coming 56e far behind Annecy, Bayonne and Angers who monopolize the podium.
The capital of Gaul also loses its derby against Saint Etienne, who she ranks 20e. A place which can be explained by the cost of living and real estate.
Fortunately the honor of the Rhone is saved with the impressive number of towns and villages that appear in the ranking. Among them, Villeurbanne arrive 112e. Clearly, after being named French Capital of Culture 2022, Lyon’s little sister continues to win.
Quality of life, education, solidarity …
The 34,837 metropolitan municipalities were scanned by the Cities and Villages where it is good to live, through the prism of objective criteria established by INSEE or other organizations. No question of chauvinism this time.
If the capital of Gaul appears in this place in the ranking, it is after having answered the some 180 criteria taken into account. Among them: quality of life, safety, shops and services, transport, health, education, solidarity, sports and leisure.
The unemployment rate, coverage at high and very high speeds as well as the distance to the nearest hospital are also criteria taken into account. And they are very important after a year of pandemic.
13 other Rhône municipalities in the ranking
In the department, thirteen other cities have climbed into the ranking of the 500 cities where it is good to live: Source (144e), Caluire-et-Bake (176e), Vaulx-en-Velin (220e), Saint-Priest (226e), Venissious (227e), Oullins (276e), Rillieux-la-Pape (310e), Tassin-la-Demi-Lune (316e), Ecully (413e), Saint-Genis-Laval (429e), Francheville (435e), Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon (496e).
