An extrajudicial statement to protest the non-implementation of the decision taken in August 2023 by the regional council of the South Aegean to support the children of volunteer Georgios Hatzinikolas with the sum of 24,000 euros per year until they reach adulthood was sent by his widow, as Dimokratiki.gr reports.
The 39-year-old volunteer Georgios Hatjinikolas, for 10 days, was “fighting” on the fiery front of the island in the summer of 2023 and ended up after first going to the Rhodes Hospital with severe respiratory problems.
After his death, the Region had decided to fund the family of the deceased with 24,000 euros on an annual basis, until his two children, who are five and nine years old respectively, reach the age of 18.

“In response to the April 8, 2024 out-of-court statement of protest of the first of you, which we received on April 8, 2024, we know the following:
As you also mention in your statement, the regional council of South Aegean, after the untimely death of your husband and father Georgios Hatzinikolas, on August 2nd 2023, with its unanimous decision number 157/3/8/2023 approved the financing of the family with the amount of EURO 24,000.00 per year until your minor children come of age.
However, the implementation of the above decision conflicts with the current fiscal control rules.
Irrespective of the fact that, by sending an extrajudicial statement, the claim for the execution of the decision of the regional council of the South Aegean, in which, in addition to the deadline for the payment of the specified amount, reference is also made to unrelated and non-pre-election events period, we hereby inform you that the political will for the implementation of the above decision remains unchanged and our organization is in the process of searching for the process permitted by the fiscal rules for its implementation and the disbursement of the above amount.
