Watch the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series on TV 2 Sport 1 Saturday from 15:30!
– It is a great pleasure to be back here in Norway. I was here earlier this summer and seeing the platform was really quite special. Now I’m looking forward to getting started, and I think Norway will love it, says Iffland to TV 2.
Around 30,000 spectators are expected at the Opera in Oslo on Saturday to witness the spectacular scenes that unfold when the world’s best cliff divers take the plunge from almost 30 meters on the spinning platform deep in the Oslo Fjord.
Incredible statistics
Australian Rhiannan Iffland is perhaps the biggest profile of them all.
Iffland plunged in Oslo in June – see the crazy pictures in the video window below!
Spectacular plunge from Christian Radich
The 30-year-old Australian has almost done everything she has done since her big breakthrough in 2016, when she became the youngest woman ever to win a competition in the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series.
Since then, there have been five titles in the world series, of which 25 out of 35 possible victories in the individual competitions in which she has participated.
Iffland is the winningest female athlete in the history of cliff diving.
On social media such as TikTok and Instagram, several of her videos have gone around the world:
Dangerous sport
She is fully aware that the sport she practices is far from risk-free.
The plunges range from a height of 23 to 28 metres, and hit the water crust at an incredible speed of 85 kilometers per hour. It corresponds to a force two to three times the force of gravity.
If you don’t hit the water perfectly, you risk serious damage.
– The heights we jump from.. It can be compared to jumping from the fifth floor of a block of flats. When you hit the water at the speed we do, it is with a calculated risk. We train hard to minimize it. There are strong forces at work, but that is why we train so hard, says Iffland.
