Rheinmetall purchased 50 Leopard 1 tanks from the Belgian company OIP Land Systems, after which it will send them for repair and modernization.
“In the end, about 30 out of 50 battle tanks will be delivered to Ukraine,” the article says.
What preceded this
In May of this year, Danish Acting Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced a joint transfer of 80 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine with Germany.
These tanks have a 105 mm cannon and coaxial MG3 7.62 mm machine gun – until the 1980s they were considered the main tanks of Germany. The latest Leopard 1A5 model is equipped with a Krupp-Atlas Electronik EMES 18 computerized fire control system with a Carl Zeiss thermal imager.
And yesterday, information appeared about an “unnamed company” that purchased 50 Leopard 1 tanks from OIP Land Systems, owned by Freddy Versluys. He bought these tanks about 10 years ago, when the Belgian government was doing cost optimization in the armed forces.
