“We are very pleased about the state’s funding and see this as an opportunity to build a sustainable structure in the field of film and media production as part of the project implementation. This also strengthens the cooperation with the practice in the region. At the same time, we are further sharpening the profile of the university and increasing the visibility of the artistic and design courses at the HSRM in Hesse and beyond, ”says University President Prof. Dr. Eva Waller.
In addition to production, the funding is intended to enable students to participate in national festivals and markets, workshops (e.g. from the STEP program of HessenFilm und Medien GmbH), conferences and network events.
Promote talent in Hessen
“This funding helps to increase the quality of artistic theses in the film and media courses in the Design Informatics Media department of the HSRM and thus to further develop the promotion of young talent in this area and to make it more visible within the university,” says Tom Schreiber, Professor of Film in the Communication Design and Crossmedia Spaces courses.
The “HAB-Hessen-Final Funding” is intended to support outstanding final projects in Hessen to the extent of up to 10,000 euros per project. “This gives our students the opportunity to develop and implement their university degree projects in a high quality in terms of content and technology,” says Prof. Tom Schreiber happily.
Two-stage funding process
The “HAB Hessen graduation grant” is carried out by the participating universities in cooperation with the Hessian Film and Media Academy (hFMA) in a two-stage process via a university-internal selection committee and a jury with an advisory board. The annual graduation project funding from all participating universities amounts to a total of 300,000 euros. A jury of professors from the participating universities selects the final projects to be funded from all submissions.
Advisory board from the film and media industry
The jury is accompanied by a three-person advisory board. The advisory board’s task is to advise the jury with regard to an expected positive effect on Hessen as a location for film and media. The advisory board consists of Anna Schoeppe (managing director HessenFilm und Medien GmbH), Anne-Kathrin Brinkmann (ZDF / arte), Stefan Weil (co-owner and managing director Atelier Markgraph GmbH Frankfurt).
