Rheingau Music Festival starts on June 25th

Oestrich-Winkel (dpa) – One and a half weeks before the start, one of the largest concert series in Germany, the Rheingau Music Festival, reports advance sales of a good 86 percent of the tickets. This means that the festival, in its 35th season, is once again “greatly popular”, said a spokeswoman on Wednesday. A total of 131,171 tickets are available for the 134 concerts at 25 venues, such as monasteries, castles, churches and wineries in the Hessian Rheingau and in neighboring regions including Rhineland-Palatinate. After the corona restrictions in 2021, this year’s festival summer from June 25th to September 3rd “brings the music back to its audience in full radiance and in the usual atmospheric way”.

According to the information at the Rheingau Music Festival (RMF), numerous ensembles are expected under the motto “Cohesion” and with a budget of eight million euros. The focus is on the violinist Julia Fischer and the pianist Jan Lisiecki. Both perform several times – including in orchestral concerts and as a duo. In addition, on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the death of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, some of the composer’s oratorios will also be performed this year.

In addition, concerts with five traditional boys’ choirs are on the program, including the Regensburger Domspatzen. There are also guest soloists such as the violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, the tenor Jonas Kaufmann and the pianist Daniil Trifonov. Jazz should also be heard. For example, drummer Wolfgang Haffner performs several times, for example with the hr-bigband and the pianist Michael Wollny.
