Rheingau Music Festival: Sponsorship award to conductors

Oestrich-Winkel/Berlin (MH) – The Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski (21) receives this year’s Lotto sponsorship award from the Rheingau Music Festival. The organizers announced this on Thursday. The presentation of the award, which is endowed with 15,000 euros, is to take place next Saturday (July 23) as part of a concert in the Kurhaus Wiesbaden.

Tarmo Peltokoski

“Peltokoski is a real exceptional talent at the beginning of a really great career,” explained the jury. At only 21 years old, he is “an impressively mature artistic personality that is rarely found”. An award-winning concert pianist who also composes and improvises, Peltokoski began his conducting studies at the age of 14 with Jorma Panula and continued with Sakari Oramo, Hannu Lintu and Jukka-Pekka Saraste. He has a brilliant striking technique, his artistic creative will is characterized by great stylistic and expressive clarity, it is said.

The sponsorship prize of the Rheingau Music Festival has been awarded since 2009. He should support young talents on the way to the top, explained the managing director of Lotto Hessen, Martin Blach. Previous winners have included Sebastian Manz (clarinet), Vestard Shimkus and Christopher Park (both piano), Pablo Fernandéz and Sheku Kanneh-Mason (both cello) and last year the Spanish violinist María Dueñas.
