Building permit for the viewing platform will be granted in the next few weeks

The chances are good that the Brown-Nizzola platform at the old iron footbridge will be completed this year. The city has reached an agreement with the objectors.

The Brown-Nizzola platform in honor of Charles EL Brown and Agostino Nizzola is to be built at the bridgehead of the old Rhine footbridge.

Almost a year has passed since the planning application for the Brown-Nizzola viewing platform on the banks of the Rhine was issued. Where the old iron footbridge once connected the two Rheinfelden, the 6 by 8.50 meter platform is intended to commemorate the two electricity pioneers Charles EL Brown and Agostino Nizzola and give passers-by the opportunity to look into the distance.

But the start of construction is still a long way off. The reason for this are two objections that have been received against the building project. According to Peter Scholer, President of IG Pro Steg, this is a collective objection from residents due to noise concerns and an objection from a nature conservation association that is demanding a compensation area for the platform.

70,000 francs raised for a more generous platform

The financing for the project is already in place. The IG is collecting 70,000 francs to make the platform more generous. In 2017, the sovereign also approved a loan of 160,000 francs for them. Scholer says: “We are eagerly waiting for an agreement so that construction can start in the spring.”

The chances are at least good. The objection negotiations took place last year. Town Clerk Roger Erdin says:

“We have now found solutions with the objectors. The building permit will be issued in the next few weeks. “

The city expects a construction time of half a year. According to Erdin, the completion of the platform should then take place in autumn or winter, so that passers-by can still gaze into the distance at the old iron walkway this year.
