After the third defeat in a row, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen have said goodbye to the title race in the Handball Bundesliga for the time being. TVB Stuttgart also loses.
The Mannheim team lost 30:33 (14:19) at TBV Lemgo Lippe on Thursday and thus lost contact with the top trio. With 37:13 points, the Löwen remain fourth in the table behind Füchsen Berlin (39:9), THW Kiel (38:8) and defending champion SC Magdeburg (37:9).
As with the recent bankruptcies against Leipzig and Hamburg, the weakened team of coach Sebastian Hinze did not find the form from the first half of the season and was even eight goals behind at times.
Despite his six goals, director Juri Knorr was only able to provide little impetus, and goalkeepers Mikael Appelgren and Joel Birlehm were not a factor. “We’re very upset that we couldn’t put a better performance on the record,” said Appelgren.
Defeat for TVB Stuttgart
In the relegation battle, TVB Stuttgart suffered a 23:26 (7:11) home defeat against MT Melsungen. While the guests celebrated their first victory of the year, the TVB was not up to par, especially in the first section.
The TVB showed an induskable performance in the first attack and only scored seven goals. Thanks to a good-humoured Silvio Heinevetter in goal, the Stuttgarters stayed tuned. The game remained open until 22:22 in the 54th minute, then the guests prevailed decisively.
