RHE Dominates Bordeaux in Late Match Victory: Rouen vs. Bordeaux Hockey Recap

After its laborious victory at home against Marseille, the RHE hosts, in a late match of the first day, Bordeaux, which finally started its season, only 48 hours ago, with a defeat at Cergy despite 4 goals scored, including two by Loïk Poudrier, despite also a good powerplay ratio of 50%!

The Boxers, like at Cergy, are very handicapped by the absences of a whole block of starters. Exactly a duo of backs, Charles-David Beaudoin and Kevin Spinozzi, and a trio of attackers Legault, Carry and Polcz. In order to play with four lines, Olivier Dimet digitally replaced his offensive defaulters with three U20s (Montean, Le Mee and Cacheux) and called on Mahieux and Rambelo on the blue line.

On the Dragons side, Francis Perron is missing (is it because he was hit in the face against the Spartans?). A void which perhaps benefited Fabrice Lhenry, unhappy with the attitude of these players during the first thirty minutes against Marseille, to modify three quarters of his offensive alignment.

Loïc Lampérier’s teammates this time completely showed humility by respecting Bordeaux. They came into the game very, very strong and, apart from maybe 5 minutes in the second period, they played with intensity. The Normans suffocated their adversaries. They created a lot of traffic, using long and mid-range shots well read by Papillon (Yeo 2’59 and Guimond 5’25). They opened the scoring with that of Noa Goncalves Nivelais, first repelled by the former Mulhousien, leaving a long rebound taken, victoriously by Bedin in an open cage (1-0 at 6’05).

Loïk Poudrier’s partners have not yet had a single shot on target when they inherit a power play (9’46). But 11 seconds later, they play four against four, then have to play three against four for 1’10. Yet asphyxiated, five against five, the Dusseau-Guillaume-Lemaitre trio is stratospheric. He cuts off all Rouen passes, resists and kills the penalty!

Bordeaux’s first shot on target took place on the visitors’ first chance. Paul Montean inherits a pass after a turnover and finds himself challenging Pintaric. The doorman uses his shield to ward off danger (15’07).

Finally, taking advantage of a delayed penalty, the Seino-Marins doubled the score in a settled game. Anthony Rech finds a nice passing line for Tomasino. The 21-year-old finds the top of the net (2-0 at 16’20, photo below).

In the first five minutes of the second period, the Boxers are much more dangerous. First, from the restart, thanks to superiority. Matija Pintaric twice opposes shots from Prissaint (21’07) and Salonen (22’50). Anthony Rech shines when he has to defend on Polodyan (22’00).

Back on par, Bastien Lemaitre spoils a bit of a four against two (23’25). Baptiste Bruche does not complete his escape on the right (24’53). Then the people of Bordeaux were punished twice. Here again the visitor trios, notably Prissaint-Guillaume-Rambelo, worked miracles for 1’06, sometimes helped by a little lack of conviction from Rouen (26’13), often by a solid Quentin Papillon (26’37).

It was at the end of this riot of efforts which broke their momentum that the Aquitaine conceded a third goal in a counter-attack, led by Alexandre Mallet. Hascak delivers a golden pass into the slot for Honejsek (3-0 at 28’55, photo above).

The match will not escape Rouen despite the visitors’ attempts (Poudrier at 34’08, Lemaitre at 34’47 or Salonen at 35’40) because Kristaps Sotnieks, mounted behind the goal line, serves Vigners in the enclave ( 4-0 at 38’17).

In the last period, the South-West players no longer really exist. In all cases offensively. Because their PK is pretty formidable. A third time, they annihilated a double inferiority, 1’33 long, partly thanks to the Karsh-Poudrier-Rambello trio.

Victor Bodin, who took Papillon’s place in front of the cage after the second break, also did his share of work (Hascak at 42’30 & Chakiachvili at 42’36). Then, the back-up is shot (Vigners 44’17 & 45’23, Yeo 45’31, Kristensen 45’41, Mallet 47’05 & Honejsek 47’40) then, veiled by Anthony Rech, he is pierced by a throw from Tomasino at the top of the slot (5-0 at 50’36, photo below).

Bordeaux will not leave Lacroix Island fanny. Samuel Salonen saves the honor with a wrist shot from distance in power play (5-1 at 53’20). The RHE will play until the end of the 60 minutes but will not be successful with a deluge of new shots from Kristensen (53’58 & 59’45), Mallet (54’26), Sotnieks (55’32 & 58’25 ), Tomasino (56’50) and Lampérier (59’20).

Post-match comments :

Fabrice Lhenry (Rouen coach): “We changed the lines because we had an injury [Perron] so it was quite positive tonight. Offensively, yes, the Hascak – Honejsek – Mallet line was interesting. The best line was Rech-Hervé-Tomasino, we had decided to put them together for a while but as we didn’t have time to train, we waited and waited. In a hurry, we did it, and I think it worked quite well. »

Olivier Dimet (Bordeaux coach): “We didn’t touch the puck. Rouen was superior in all areas, it was going way too fast for us. Today, we feel our lack of preparation. We have seen it clearly, there are players who are not in the right chair, this is automatically felt against Rouen who has the pace of the CHL. When we are deprived of our defs 1 and 2, things are off to a bad start. We had a truncated preparation, the players lacked matches and intensity. »
