RF will take measures without security guarantees – Lavrov

Lavrov spoke about the requirements of the Russian Federation for security guarantees

Russia will be forced to take the necessary measures to eliminate unacceptable security threats, Lavrov said.

If the US and NATO do not accept Russia’s proposals on security guarantees, then the Russian Federation will take measures to eliminate threats to its security. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview. RIA Novostipublished on Friday, December 31st.

“If a constructive response does not follow within a reasonable time and the West continues its aggressive line, then Russia will be forced to take all necessary measures to ensure a strategic balance and eliminate unacceptable threats to our security,” he said.

He promised that the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs would not allow “to roll up initiatives in endless discussions.”

Lavrov noted the importance for the Russian Federation of the participation of the American military in the negotiations.

“As far as we understand, the projects we have prepared are being studied in Washington and other Western capitals … It is fundamentally important for us to participate in the negotiations of high-ranking military personnel of the United States and the alliance countries,” the Russian minister added.

Lavrov stressed that the proposals are aimed at creating and legalizing a new system of agreements with the West in the security sphere and admitted that new agreements on arms control are possible on its basis.

“Of course, they will not resemble the long-outdated CFE Treaty, even in its adapted version,” Lavrov said.

Recall negotiations between the Russian Federation and the United States on security will be held on January 10 in Geneva, and on January 12 a meeting of the NATO-RF Council will take place.

The day before, security issues were discussed US and RF presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin.
