Recent TCG meetings have yielded no results

Moscow did not accept proposals either to restore the truce or to exchange prisoners.

The Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group proposed to the Russian side to establish a truce in Donbass, open the checkpoint and conduct an exchange of prisoners. All initiatives were rejected reported Thursday 9 October at TCG.

It is noted that at a meeting of subgroups on December 7, Kiev proposed to restore the regime of silence in eastern Ukraine, agreed on July 22, 2020, from December 10; open checkpoints of entry / exit in Shchastya and Zolote; to carry out a mutual exchange of detained persons according to the formula 60 to 60.

“These issues were discussed at the next meeting of the TKH on December 8, 2021. Unfortunately, all the initiatives of the Ukrainian side were rejected by the Russian Federation under far-fetched pretexts,” the message says.

Moreover, at an extraordinary meeting On Thursday, Kiev proposed expanding the composition of the Joint Control and Coordination Center not only by the signatories of the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, but also by authorized representatives of the Normandy format member states (by their consent) as an independent party. However, this initiative was also rejected.

Finally, the Ukrainian side stated that it remains committed to the need to ensure a sustainable ceasefire in Donbas and is ready to continue working on this within the TCG and other formats.

Formerly Ukraine in the OSCE suggested ten steps to break the deadlock in negotiations with Russia on Donbass. In particular, Kiev called on Moscow to introduce a “Christmas ceasefire.”
