A customer made a curious discovery in a Rewe market: a pretzel in the style of “Toast Hawaii”. On Twitter, opinions differ.

Munich – Most people stock up on everyday needs in a supermarket. Aldi, Lidl, Edeka and Co. convince their customers with a wide range and a lot of choice. In order to stand out from the competitive market, the supermarket chains keep coming up with strange things. But Rewe went too far for a customer with a special product, eh tz.de reported.

Rewe customer makes strange pretzel discovery: “I’m not ok with it”

“A line has been crossed and I’m not ok with that,” he wrote on Twitter, complete with an angry emoji. The customer also posted a picture of the product in question. It is a “pizza pretzel Hawaii”. The traditional Bavarian pastry has been reinterpreted in the style of the legendary “Toast Hawaii”. When and in which market the picture was taken is not clear from the article.

Clemens Wilmenrod made Hawaiian toast back in the 1950s. He went down in history as the first German television chef. Curious: Wilmenrod was not a trained cook, but actually an actor. For the “Toast Hawaii” a piece of toast is baked with ham, a slice of pineapple and cheese. Instead of toast, a pretzel was used as the basis for the “Pizza Breze Hawaii”.

From “what’s that supposed to mean?” to “cool”: mixed reactions to Rewe’s “Pizzabreze Hawaii”

For decades, culinary opinions have differed over Wilmenrod’s creations. A derived pizza Hawaii idea recently caused horror. And the “pizza pretzel Hawaii” is sometimes not well received. But there are also lovers of the pizza pretzel. We summarized some reactions on Twitter.

  • “What shoud that?”
  • “Let’s eat pizza pretzels together and watch the sunset.”
  • “The forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden.”
  • “I would burn the place down in self-defense.”
  • “Two euros is really brutal.”
  • “Hey, it tastes great.”

Even if opinions are divided, Rewe seems to have discovered an unexpected niche for itself with the “Pizzabreze Hawaii”. Another Rewe customer recently shared a record-breaking picture. He handed in a whopping 641 returnable bottles at once – and suddenly found a “new space”. (vfi)
