The secret compartment that revolutionizes space (DesignMag.it)
There are a number of convenient and practical solutions for creating new sources of containment space. Let’s discover them together.
One of the main problems of small homes, but also of some types of attic apartments, is to have a reduced amount of space in which to store one’s belongings and objects that are not used on a daily basis. From books to documents, from blankets to other objects, often the drawers, shelves or furniture available are not enough to contain everything and one would like to be able to have new spaces without however reducing the livable area of your home.
There are some in this regard really interesting solutions which concern one of the rooms of the house and which allow you to create a sort of ‘secret compartment’. We are talking about the bedroom and in particular the bed and the ‘headboard’ which usually only represents an aesthetic addition but which, if necessary, can transform into a very precious source of space to hold your items.
How to create storage spaces at home? Unexpected solutions for the bedroom
When we find ourselves in attics with a ‘sloping’ ceiling and the difficulty of optimize spaces, the perfect solution is the headboard with opening from the top, a sort of very comfortable storage unit in which to store everything you don’t use. You can have it custom made by a carpenter and it will certainly change your life. An alternative is to optimize the bedside tables by having them built across the entire wall like this that have the appearance of shelves and allow you to contain many books and ornaments. The storage headboard could also be made of masonry, a type suitable for oblique walls because it can compensate for this inclination by creating a straight side to place the bed on; and obviously lots of extra storage space. You can also evaluate the creation, even with plasterboard, of symmetrical niches which could be painted in contrast so as to create really interesting color games.
Another solution provides the use of simple plywood: the structure in this case could have side openings while only the wooden surface would remain at the front; clearly the upper part could also be used as a bookcase or long bedside table. And what about the corner headboard? In this case it is designed using two walls and transforming itself into a maxi piece of furniture full of compartments to truly contain everything. In some homes, the creation of a high, full-wall headboard could be considered: a real library to give a unique touch to the bedroom. There is also the possibility, if you don’t place it against the wall, to create a headboard with cabinets and drawers on the back, a fantastic typology because it could be used as a wardrobe.
