It’s been more than a year since development footage was leaked online Grand Theft Auto 6. Thanks to many videos, we have learned interesting details about the expected gangster action, but at least one thing has escaped attention until now.
He was recently exposed patent ProceduralMotion, which is meant to highlight the use of a state-of-the-art animation and motion system in future Rockstar Games games. It is related to a recent discovery in the form of a debugging menu in the files from the leak from September last year.
According to both the patent and the debug menu, GTA 6 should contain the technology that makes them characters look and feel much more realistic. The movements and animations are to be much more varied and the characters will react to all kinds of situations, for example rain.
The debug menu reveals that NPC characters are supposed to be affected by emotions. This applies to behavior, facial expressions and movement itself. In addition, NPC characters are supposed to be able to adapt to the player’s action, which could be interesting not only in firefights. The AI is supposed to remember the player’s actions and make decisions accordingly. The system related to gangs, alliances or conflicts is also supposed to use these new technologies. The game world should also react to the player’s actions, i.e. the environment, which can also change as the story progresses.
The animals, which are said to be possible to tame, should also behave more realistically. Although in this case it could easily be a remnant from Red Dead Redemption 2.
It all sounds really interesting. If anyone can pull this off, it’s Rockstar with a de facto unlimited budget. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for GTA 6 to be announced. The game is expected to be released sometime between March 2024 and March 2025.
