Revolution at Ferrari: the decision shocks everyone

The choice made by Ferrari completely shocked the team’s many fans. Here’s what we’ll see in Austin

The goal at the start of the season Ferrari was to return to winning some races and try to give Red Bull and Max Verstappen a hard time, awaiting the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in 2025 which should increase the competitiveness of the Red team even further. The Maranello team has so far achieved three successes, two with Leclerc and one with Sainz, with some regrets in at least a couple of other Grands Prix where the top step of the podium was within reach.

With six races remaining in the season (plus 3 Sprint races) Leclerc is 86 points behind the world championship leader, Max Verstappen, while Lando Norris has 34 points more than the Monegasque. Almost impossible to imagine a comeback for the Ferrari driverjust as it is difficult to imagine a Ferrari exploit in the constructors’ standings where the Prancing Horse is currently third, 75 points behind McLaren and 34 behind Red Bull.

Yet the Red team doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned: Vasseur and the whole team certainly want to at least try to win a few more races, especially with the arrival of the latest update package which should further improve an SF24 which in recent GPs – Singapore aside – has shown it can compete for success.

Ferrari changes everything: revolution underway, the reasons

However, just in the last few hours the news has arrived of a clear change on the part of Ferrari compared to the starting decision. In fact, the Rossa will show up in Austin for the Texas GP with several new features but not with all those that had been announced. In addition to the debut of the new technical director of the chassis area Loic Serra and the new deputy team principal Jerome D’Ambrosio, Ferrari will be able to count on some updates, but not all.

In Texas the Maranello team will introduce the SF24 the new front wing with a more extreme moving flap compared to that seen on the Marina Bay circuit. Furthermore, the car will be able to count on some aerodynamic components which should guarantee better performance in high-speed corners.

As for the updates on the bottom, which will complete the evolution of the SF24, appointment at the next Mexican GP. It is unclear whether this choice to split the updates was caused by a delay or if it is a precise will of Frederic Vasseur. Furthermore, in Austin there will be only one free practice session (the Sprint Race is scheduled) and therefore introducing all the updates could represent a risk.
