Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said on Thursday that his country does not see any obstacle to establishing relations with Egypt, adding that the meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran and Egypt may be a chapter in reviving relations.

The Iranian presidency website quoted Raisi as saying in a press conference at the conclusion of his visit to New York that “the Islamic Republic does not see any obstacle to establishing relations with Egypt. The Egyptian side was also informed of this matter,” adding that the meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries in New York may pave the way for The path to restoring relations between Iran and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Abu Zeid added on his official account on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) that the meeting took place at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York.

The spokesman did not give details of what was discussed in the meeting.

Mohamed Al-Orabi, head of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, stated last month that “diplomatic relations between Egypt and Iran exist, exist and have not been interrupted.”

Last May, Iranian Leader Ali Khamenei announced, during his meeting with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, that Iran welcomes the restoration of relations with Egypt.
