Reviving Rail Services in Bouzonville: A Game-Changer for Progress in the City and Its Territory

The mayor of Bouzonville and president of the Bouzonvillois-Trois frontières community of communes is convinced that a rail service for passengers would lead to real progress for his city and its territory. For him, the time has come to take action.

Voted unanimously in the departmental council, is the motion calling for the return of rail to the area realistic?

Armel Chabane : ” She is ! The Department carried out a study, the results of which were revealed a year ago. One of the secondary lines studied concerns the Moselle-East and North, from Forbach to Thionville, via Bouzonville. Today, this line is only used by freight trains. The study shows that 5,000 cross-border commuters make this journey daily. This would be a viable line. Investments would however be necessary, but these investments are acceptable given the challenge. »

Bouzonville station closed in 2016. What would its reopening mean for you?

“The sector would gain in attractiveness, whether economic or residential. Bouzonville can be considered today as part of the second, or even the third crown of Luxembourg. By road, a motorist goes from our town, Bouzonville, to Schengen in thirty minutes. And from Bouzonville, people go to work in Moselle-Est or in Metz. Reopening a station is a symbol: it is reopening a public service in a rural area which saw its station close in 2016. It is also a further step in the energy transition. »

This project is clearly close to your heart…

“The benefits would be immeasurable for the territory. But we now have to convince the Region and the SNCF to support us. Local elected officials and the Department are unanimous in praising the benefits of a return of rail to the area. We voted on a lot of motions, we expressed our expectations and intentions, we gave a lot of interviews, it is time to take action. All the lights are green, it’s now or never! »
